On Monday, April 11, Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif was elected as the new Prime Minister of Pakistan. He will be the 23rd PM of the country.
Shehbaz Sharif is the President of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) party. He won the PM’s chair with 174 votes. “Mian Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif has secured 174 votes,” said PML-N’s Ayaz Sadiq, who is currently chairing the session.
“Today, the almighty has saved Pakistan and the 22 crore people of the country. This is the first time when the vote of no-confidence motion was successfully passed. The people of this country will celebrate this day,” said the new PM Shehbaz Sharif addressing the National Assembly.
Shehbaz Sharif was born at Lahore in 1950 in an industrialist family. He is the younger brother of former PM Nawaz Sharif. Shehbaz Sharif has been the CM of the Punjab province of Pakistan for three terms.
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan had resigned from the membership of the National Assembly after holding a meeting with his cabinet ministers. With this, the political turmoil that was going on in Pakistan is likely to come to an end.
