Russia has obtained the legal rights to set up military garrisons in Ukraine’s 2 separatist regions under agreements signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin with the respective self-proclaimed separatist leaders – Leonid Pasechnik (Luhansk) and Denis Pushilin (Donetsk)
On Monday Putin officially announced the independence of the two separatist pro-Russian regions; the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic and Donetsk People’s Republic. West fears that this recognition will lead to an imminent attack on Ukraine, and Russia is in for a serious series of sanctions from global leaders.
Media reporters from Moscow informed that a total of 5 tanks were seen aligning the edge of the Donetsk region and 2 more tanks in a different part of the town.
As soon as Putin announced the region’s independence, world leaders condemned his decisions and levied sanctions to stop US business exercises in the separatist regions and halt imports of all goods from those regions.
Britain, France and Germany also agreed to respond to Russia’s recognition of the breakaway regions with sanctions, and the White House said it would announce further measures on Tuesday.
Joe Biden called and consoled Zelenskiy and strengthened him that global leaders extend their solidarity at this pressing hour. Zelenskiy said Putin has created havoc in Ukraine and has no value for all the diplomatic efforts made by several countries in the past few weeks.
US ambassador to United Nations, Linda Thomas told an urgent meeting was held by the security council that the separatist regions were made independent to indicate an imminent offensive on Ukraine is underway.
“Tomorrow, the United States will impose sanctions on Russia for this clear violation of international law and Ukraine sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Linda announced after the Security Council meeting on Monday evening.
Vassily Nebenzia, the Russian ambassador to the UN forewarned the West not to aggravate the situation further. Even China has levied sanctions on Russia and Japan is ready to exercise the strictest sanctions should Putin go for an imminent attack on Ukraine.
Before Russia planned to invade Ukraine, Sino-Russian relations were building up their allegiance with each other against the United States. Oil prices saw a 7 year high and currencies like the yen jumped and stocks globally went down as the Europes Eastern region is about to start a war.
Russia still stands on its statement that it does not want to invade Ukraine, so long as Ukraine does not join the NATO alliance. And giving independence to the separatist regions will close the diplomatic window as it’s the open rejection of the 7-year old cease-fire orchestrated by France and Germany.
