United States President Donald J. Trump on Thursday issued a statement on Truth Social announcing a proposed diplomatic initiative involving Israel and Lebanon, including a claimed agreement on a temporary ceasefire and plans for high-level talks in Washington, D.C.
In his statement, Trump said he would invite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to the White House for what he described as “the first meaningful talks between Israel and Lebanon since 1983.” He emphasized that both sides are seeking peace and expressed confidence in a swift resolution.
Trump further stated:
“I just had excellent conversations with the Highly Respected President Joseph Aoun, of Lebanon, and Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel. These two Leaders have agreed that in order to achieve PEACE between their Countries, they will formally begin a 10 Day CEASEFIRE at 5 P.M. EST.”
According to the statement, representatives from both countries reportedly met in Washington earlier this week, marking what Trump described as their first meeting in 34 years. He also noted the involvement of senior US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Vice President JD Vance, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine, in facilitating discussions aimed at achieving a “lasting peace.”
Trump added that he has directed US leadership to actively engage with both nations during the ceasefire period to advance negotiations. He characterized the development as part of his broader diplomatic record, stating that he has “solved 9 wars across the world” and expressed optimism that this would be his “10th.”
As of now, these claims have emerged from Trump’s official statement, and further confirmation from relevant government authorities and official diplomatic channels is awaited.
