Poland has activated its Territorial Defense Forces to conduct ground searches for drones, following an incident involving Russian UAVs crossing into Polish airspace from Ukraine. Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that the Polish army engaged the UAVs, leading to their downing. The minister emphasised that the operation is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and security of Polish territory. The Polish government has urged citizens to report any suspicious fragments to the police, warning them not to approach such objects due to potential hazards.

Coordination with NATO

Poland is maintaining constant communication with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) command as the search operation unfolds. This cooperation underscores the significance of the incident and highlights the potential regional security implications. The Polish army’s swift response reflects the country’s commitment to its national security and its obligations as a NATO member. The situation remains under close observation, with further updates expected as the search progresses and more information becomes available. Poland’s proactive stance aims to mitigate any threats posed by the incursion of foreign UAVs into its airspace.
