Warsaw, September 10 – The airspace over Chopin International Airport and the Polish capital has been reopened after being temporarily shut down due to a Russian drone incursion, Polish authorities confirmed on Wednesday.

Temporary closure for security

Earlier in the day, Poland’s Civil Aviation Authority closed Warsaw International Airport citing “unplanned military activity” in the region. The precautionary measure was taken to ensure state security following reports that Russian drones entered Polish airspace during overnight strikes targeting western Ukraine.

Delays expected

Chopin International Airport warned passengers that disruptions and delays should be expected throughout the day due to the earlier closure and subsequent resumption of operations. Travelers have been advised to check with airlines for updated flight schedules.

Rising cross-border risks

The intrusion highlights the growing spillover risks of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with Poland—a NATO member—repeatedly reporting drone violations near its border in recent months. The Polish military said it remains on high alert to intercept any further threats.
