Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday i.e. 16th September sent a congratulatory message to Japan’s new prime minister Yoshihide Suga.
Suga, the former chief cabinet secretary in former prime minister Shinzo Abe’s administration, is expected to stick closely to policies championed by his predecessor, including close ties with India.
Modi said in a Twitter post, “Heartiest congratulations to Excellency Yoshihide Suga on the appointment as Prime Minister of Japan @kantei. I look forward to jointly taking our Special Strategic and Global Partnership to new heights. @sugawitter”

AFP news agency said, Suga, 71, who was elected prime minister on Wednesday, won an easy victory, taking 314 votes of 462 valid ballots cast in the lower house of the Japanese parliament, where his ruling Liberal Democratic Party holds a commanding majority with its coalition partner.
