The key ally and main coalition partner Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM) dealt a major blow to Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government after striking a deal with the opposition Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

“The MQM and the united opposition have reached an agreement. The Rabta committee MQM and the PPP CEC will ratify the aforementioned agreement. We will then provide more information to the media at a press conference tomorrow, IA. Pakistan, congratulations,” tweeted Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party.

Following the recent change ahead of Imran Khan’s no-confidence motion on March 31, the PTI government lost its majority in the lower house of parliament. The joint opposition now has 177 members of the national assembly after the ruling coalition partner MQM-P decided to split with the Imran Khan-led government, leaving it with 164 MNAs.

Prominently, the joint opposition needs the cooperation of 172 MNAs in order for the no-confidence motion against the prime minister to be successful.

Meanwhile, after Imran Khan claimed that some people are attempting to destabilise his government using foreign funds, federal minister Asad Umar stated that the PM is prepared to show a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial to back up his claims.

“Efforts are being made through foreign money to change the system in Pakistan,” Prime Minister Imran said during his rally. Our people are being exploited. Most of the time unintentionally, but some people are using money against us. We are aware of the sources of the pressure being applied to us. We have been threatened in writing, but we will not compromise on matters of national importance.
