Brenton Tarrant, who live-streamed his massacre of 51 people at 2 New Zealand mosques last year, was sentenced to “life in prison without parole” for carrying out the worst atrocity.
Justice Mander read the names of every victim telling Tarrant about the lives he destroyed or cut short.
“You showed no mercy. It was brutal and beyond callous — your actions were inhumane, ” Justice Mander told Tarrant.
Notably, Tarrant’s sentencing also marks the first terrorism conviction in the country’s history.
The March 15, 2019, massacre in the southern city of Christchurch was the deadliest peacetime shooting in New Zealand.
Meanwhile, New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern has welcomed the life sentence, saying he deserved a lifetime of “complete and utter silence”.
