Protests in Nepal intensified on Tuesday as demonstrators vandalized and set multiple buildings ablaze, including the residences of President Ram Chandra Poudel and Prime Minister Sharma Oli.

According to Nepali state media, army helicopters have been deployed to evacuate the country’s top officials as rioters also torched over ten officials’ homes, the Hilton Hotel in Kathmandu, and the headquarters of the Nepal Communist Party.

The unrest, now in its second day, stems from the government’s decision to ban major social media platforms, triggering the so-called “Gen Z protests.” Violence has spiraled rapidly, with at least 19 people killed after police opened fire on crowds attempting to storm the Parliament.
