US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is due to land in Sudan from Israel on Tuesday, as the United States promotes stronger Sudan-Israel ties.

His visit is part of a regional tour following an agreement between Israel and the UAE this month to forge full relations.

“Happy to announce that we are on the FIRST official NONSTOP flight from Israel to Sudan!” Pompeo wrote in a tweet.

In addition to Sudan-Israel relations, Pompeo will also discuss “continued U.S. support for the civilian-led transitional government” in Sudan.

Notably, Sudan has been restoring its own ties with the US following the ouster of Omar al-Bashir last year.
