A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck the Philippines on Sunday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The tremor occurred 75 kilometers south of Sarangani in the Davao region, an area with a population of over 7,500 residents.
The quake was recorded at a depth of 26.9 kilometers, indicating a shallow seismic event, which typically has the potential to cause stronger ground shaking. However, no casualties or material damage have been reported so far.
The Philippines lies along the Pacific Ring of Fire, making it one of the most earthquake-prone regions in the world. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation, though no tsunami warning has been issued.
