According to the emirates media office on Thursday, with no casualties reported an explosion has been bought under control that was caused by a fire that broke out on a container ship in Dubai’s main port, as per a report released by the Hindustan Times. As a result of the incident, windows and doors were reported to be shaken in the homes of the three residents in the area of the blast, the cause of which remains unknown.
As smoke rose from the tightly secured facility, a helicopter was seen circling overhead at as said by an AFP correspondent at the scene. As per the US Congressional Research Service, outside of the United States in 2017, the port was the United States Navy’s busiest port of call and is capable of handling aircraft carriers.
According to the Dubai media office, to ensure the normal movement of ships in the port continues without any disruption, all necessary measures were taken by the port authority, as claimed by them. Making up the wealthy United Arab Emirates, such events are a rarity in the ultra-secure Gulf emirate.
Contributing around 23% of Dubai’s gross domestic product in the previous year, around 8,000 companies are based at the Jebel Ali free zone which is the Middle East’s largest trade zone.
