An Israeli airstrike struck a police vehicle in Gaza City on Tuesday, killing at least four people, including a child, according to health officials and medics in the territory.
The attack occurred on Nafaq Street, where the police car was set ablaze. Rescue workers and residents rushed to the scene to search for casualties amid the smoke and debris. It remained unclear how many of those killed were actual policemen. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the incident.
The incident comes as a fragile U.S.-brokered ceasefire, which took effect last October, continues to face repeated violations. While the deal ended two years of intense fighting, Israeli forces still control a large depopulated zone covering more than half of Gaza, with Hamas retaining authority in the remaining coastal strip.
Since the ceasefire began, more than 750 Palestinians have been killed, while militants have killed four Israeli soldiers. Both sides continue to trade blame for the persistent breaches.
The strike highlights the fragile and tense nature of the current truce, with civilian areas and emergency responders frequently caught in the crossfire.
