A session of the Israeli Knesset turned tense on Monday when United States President Donald Trump’s speech was briefly interrupted by Ayman Odeh, a member of Israel’s parliament representing the left-wing Hadash alliance.
According to Al Jazeera, Odeh shouted during Trump’s address, denouncing what he called “unbearable hypocrisy” in the chamber. He accused the Israeli government of “crimes in Gaza” and urged lawmakers to recognize Palestine for lasting peace.
Security officers swiftly escorted Odeh out of the Knesset, prompting Trump to pause his speech. “That was very efficient,” the US President remarked as calm returned to the chamber.
The interruption occurred just as Trump was praising US Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, for his role in brokering the Gaza peace deal.
The incident underscores heightened political sensitivities surrounding US-Israel relations and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which has drawn strong reactions both within Israel and internationally.
