Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar on Tuesday said that Israel is ready to end the war in Gaza “based on President Trump’s proposal and in accordance with the principles established by the security cabinet.” Saar made the remarks during his meeting with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic in Zagreb, marking the first public acknowledgment of the US plan by a senior Israeli official.
Trump’s proposal: key terms
Although details have not been formally released by Washington or Jerusalem, sources familiar with the matter outlined the core elements:
-
Hostages: Hamas would release all 48 hostages — both alive and deceased — within the first 48 hours of a 60-day ceasefire.
-
Israeli concessions: Israel would halt operations in Gaza City and release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in return.
-
Long-term settlement: The ceasefire would pave the way for permanent peace talks, focusing on Hamas disarmament, phased Israeli troop withdrawal, and a framework for autonomous rule in Gaza.
First official nod
This is the first time an Israeli official has explicitly accepted Trump’s proposal, which has been circulating among negotiators for weeks. The US has positioned the plan as a “balanced framework” aimed at both ending hostilities and ensuring humanitarian relief while addressing Israel’s security concerns.
The development comes amid ongoing pressure on Israel to outline a post-war vision for Gaza and after weeks of backchannel diplomacy involving Washington, Cairo, and Doha.
