On the 24th February of 2022,  The Russian Federation best known as Russia began the invasion of the Republic of Ukraine. The conflict which originally began in 2014 has now been escalated to a complete invasion and seizure of the country in the name of “Military Operations”.

Multiple organizations such as the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) are said to be active participants which remain hostile spectators and executives to a possible war. Nearly after 77 years, Europe has been threatened with another World War on its hand that with the aid of advanced technology could lead to great damage and loss of lives.

While the United Kingdom and USA have shown clear involvement to hit back Russia via means of diplomatic and economic sanctions with economies across the world. Belarus has made clear allyship support to the Russian government. With multiple involvement of countries, North Korea recently tested its illegal largest intercontinental ballistic missile Hwasong-17. Claims made state that the missile can reach all the way to the US and make significant damage given its pay load. Once revealed in 2020 as a means of military progress is now a threat to the United States of America.

Where Does India Stand in the War?

India has been known to avoid conflict and war and sustaining diplomatic peace for growth. However, India has never stood back from replying back to threats on national security and protecting its citizens.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke both to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to ensure safe evacuation of Indian citizens and to ensure diplomatic peace.

India seems to have a neutral stance where it voted to “Abstain” from voting with Russia on its resolution and the Ukrainian Humanitarian crisis. India shared support with Ukraine but has carefully decided not to intervene or escalate the war.

What is India doing now?

India is now swamped with state visits with international dignitaries and head of states. Along with EAM S. Jaishankar who is set to reach Maldives to meet his counterpart as well as the President.

Recently the Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Kishida Fumio met with PM Modi on a 1 day visit to India. What was originally stated as a diplomatic visit to strengthen ties could be deemed more given recent events.

Since then, the Prime Minister of Nepal Sher Bahadur Deuba has planned to visit India. From 1-3 April where he will meet the PM on 2 April.

Another development by the Royal Dutch Court of Netherlands announced, President Ram Nath Kovind will be on a state visit. As the de jure Head of State of India to the Netherlands. He will be meeting with King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands at their invitation. Lest, to discuss important matters of global security from the 5th of April till the 7th.

When North Korea has threatened US in a difficult time and Russia continues attempts of invasion on Ukraine. India has surely protected its citizens and reduced negative involvement. However, these diplomatic meetings will not only benefit trade and bilateral relations. But also secure India’s diplomatic position in the current conflict.
