Unconfirmed reports from the media claim that Major General Amir Hatami, the Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Army (Artesh), has been killed during the ongoing joint US-Israel strikes on Iran that began on February 28, 2026.

According to reports, Hatami was reportedly eliminated in airstrikes targeting multiple sites in Tehran, including military and government facilities. Explosions rocked the Iranian capital, with reports of hits near key locations such as the Supreme Leader’s offices and intelligence ministry.

Hatami, a major general and veteran of the Iran-Iraq War, assumed the role of Army Commander-in-Chief in June 2025 after a military reshuffle following earlier Israeli strikes. He succeeded Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi (promoted to Chief of Staff) and previously served as Iran’s Defense Minister from 2013 to 2021. In recent weeks, he had issued strong warnings to the US and Israel, vowing Iran’s forces would defend the country “to the last breath” and remain on high alert amid escalating tensions over nuclear talks and missile programs.

Iranian authorities have not yet confirmed Hatami’s death, and the claim remains unverified by official Tehran sources. This follows a pattern of targeting high-ranking Iranian military figures in previous operations, including the June 2025 strikes that killed top IRGC commanders.
