Iran’s Defence Ministry on Saturday sharply escalated its rhetoric against the United States, with an Iranian Defence Ministry spokesperson warning that US President Donald Trump “has no choice but to accept Iran’s demands or face further defeats.”

The statement comes amid continued tensions between Iran and the United States following months of military escalation, diplomatic deadlock and growing instability across the Gulf region.

Iranian state-linked media outlets reported that the remarks were made during discussions surrounding the ongoing conflict and indirect negotiations involving regional mediators, including Qatar and Pakistan.

The latest warning from Tehran comes at a time when diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict remain uncertain. Iranian officials earlier said negotiations are primarily focused on ending the war but cautioned that no final agreement appears close at the moment.

The confrontation between Washington and Tehran intensified earlier this year after joint US-Israeli military strikes on Iranian-linked targets triggered retaliatory responses and heightened fears of a wider regional conflict. Since then, several rounds of indirect diplomacy have been launched involving Gulf countries and international stakeholders.

The crisis has also significantly impacted global energy markets, particularly due to tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important oil shipping routes.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration has continued pressing Iran over its nuclear activities, uranium enrichment programme and regional military posture. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently stated that enriched uranium and maritime security issues remain central concerns in negotiations with Tehran.

Iran, however, has maintained that it will not accept pressure-based diplomacy and has repeatedly insisted that any agreement must address its security and sovereignty concerns.

Diplomatic channels involving Qatar, Pakistan and China remain active, but officials familiar with the negotiations say major disagreements persist over sanctions, regional security arrangements and nuclear-related demands.

Analysts say the increasingly aggressive public rhetoric from both sides reflects the fragile and uncertain nature of the ongoing negotiations as international mediators continue efforts to prevent further escalation in the Middle East.
