A pair of gold-plated, circular-rimmed eyeglasses believed to have been worn by Mahatma Gandhi has been sold for 2,60,000 pounds in Britain.

“An incredible result for an incredible item! Thanks to all those who bid,” said auctioneer Andy Stowe of East Bristol Auctions.

“These glasses represent not only an auction record for us but a huge find of great historical importance,” said Stowe.

Born in 1869, Mahatma Gandhi advocated for non-violence throughout his life and played an important role in India’s independence struggle for independence.

Often referred to as India’s “father of the nation”, he was assassinated on January 30, 1948.
