During a campaign and an event hosted by the Conservative Friends of India (CFIN) diaspora organisation in north London, the Prime Ministerial candidate, Rishi Sunak said that he wants to change Indo-UK ties and make it two-way and provide greater access to Indian companies and students to the United Kingdom.
The former Finance Minister great the largely Indian crowds with Namaste, Kem Chho, salaam and kidda.
He was welcomed with a grand entry at the Dhamecha Lohana Centre in Harrow to dhol beats and loud cheers.
Sunak even spoke in Hindi to the Indian crowds as he said, “Aap sab mere parivar ho (you all are my family).” We know the UK-India relationship is important. We represent the living bridge between our two countries,” he said, in response to a question about bilateral ties from CFIN co-chair Reena Ranger.
“We are all very aware of the opportunity for the UK to sell things and do things in India, but actually we need to look at that relationship differently because there is an enormous amount that we here in the UK can learn from India,” he added
Sunak also stated he wanted to make it easy for students coming from India and study in the UK. He mentioned how easy it was for Indian and British companies to work with each other as it was a two-way relationship.
Talking about the relations with China, he said that the UK’s response to the Chinese aggression must be “robust”.
“China and the Chinese Communist Party represent the biggest threat to our economy and thereby national security that this country has faced in a long time and we need to be alive to that,” he said.
