French President Emmanuel Macron, following his role as the chief guest at India’s 75th Republic Day celebrations held at Kartavya Path in Delhi, took a cultural detour to visit the Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia Dargah in south Delhi on January 26, Friday.
Situated in Delhi’s Nizamuddin West area, the 700-year-old mausoleum is dedicated to the revered Sufi saint Khwaja Nizamuddin Auliya and his disciple Amir Khusrau.
In a video capturing the visit, Macron stands out with a sea-green scarf, distinguishing himself from the pink-colored scarves worn by the rest of his delegation. The footage showcases the French President enjoying Sufi music set against a backdrop of instrumental melodies.
Emmanuel Macron arrived at the shrine around 9:45 pm and spent more than half an hour exploring the historic site.
Accompanying the French President were External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and other senior dignitaries. The visit followed discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Macron on January 25 and 26, culminating in the adoption of a Roadmap on Defence Industrial Cooperation between the two nations.
