In order to mark the start of a trial of suspected accomplices of terrorist gunmen who attacked Charlie Hebdo’s offices in 2015, the French satirical weekly will reprint controversial cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.

“We will never lie down. We will never give up. The hatred that struck us is still there and, since 2015, it has taken the time to mutate, to change its appearance, to go unnoticed and to quietly continue its ruthless crusade,” its director Laurent “Riss” Sourisseau wrote in an editorial.

The attack on the publication’s offices by brothers Saïd and Chérif Kouachi left several people dead. The gunmen claimed the attack in the name of al-Qaeda, describing it as vengeance for the publishing controversial caricatures.

Fourteen suspected accomplices to the militants behind the attacks will go on trial on Wednesday.
