Four Pakistani soldiers were killed in a suicide attack carried out on their convoy by militants in the Mir Ali area of the North Waziristan District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
As per Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the soldiers were identified as 22-year-old Lance Naik Shahzaib, a resident of Mansehra, 26-year-old Lance Naik Sajjad, hailing from Ghizer, 25-year-old sepoy Umair, a resident of Kohat and 30-year-old sepoy Khurram, a resident of Narowal, the Dawn reported.
The ISPR has said that the intelligence agencies have initiated operations and investigations to hunt down the details and the perpetrators of the suicide attack.
Officials stated that the convoy carrying the personnel was going from Mirali to Miramshah, a suicide bomber riding a motorcycle blew himself up near the vehicles.
The Pakistani Prime Minister, Shehbaaz Shariff has expressed concern over the attack and assured to eliminate the threat of terrorism from Pakistan.
In recent months, several attacks similar to these have been reported in Pakistan. On July 4th, around 10 personnel were injured when their convoy was attacked.
Earlier in May, a suicide bomber riding a motorcycle attacked a convoy of security personnel, injuring 2 soldiers and 2 children in the process.
In April, 7 Pakistani soldiers were killed in a convoy attack near the border with Afghanistan.
It is reported that militants from TTP, Tehrekk-e-Taliban Pakistan and ISIS use Afghanistan as their launch pads to carry out attacks in Pakistan killing soldiers and civilians in the process. The porous borders between Afghanistan and Pakistan allows the movement of terrorists, arms and drugs which allows such attacks to be carried out with ease.
A vernacular media reported that around 105 military personnel have lost their lives in such incidents in the first 3 months of the year.
