The Federal Reserve said Wednesday that Chairman Jerome Powell tested positive for COVID-19 and is experiencing moderate symptoms.

In compliance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID-19 guidance, the Fed chairman is isolating himself at home and intends to work remotely. According to the announcement, Powell has been vaccinated and boosted.

Powell’s ailment was not discussed further.

Powell’s passing tests come as the Fed grapples with inflation and an economic downturn, with the possibility of a recession approaching.

Last week, the Fed chairman went to Sweden to speak on central bank independence.
