Donald Trump issued a proclamation against the entry of Chinese students and researchers who have ties with the People’s Liberation Army to discourage China’s attempts to use students to acquire Intellectual property and technology from US.
This has come in the time where US grows increasingly hostile towards China for the origin of the virus, the crackdown in Hong Kong and the military moves in South China Sea.
“In light of the above, I have determined that the entry of certain” Chinese nationals “seeking to enter the US pursuant to an ‘F’ or ‘J’ visa to study or conduct research in the US would be detrimental to the interests” of America, he said.
China termed Trump’s action as racist, an act of political persecution and are reminiscent of the McCarthy era. McCarthyism is the practice of making accusations of subversion or treason without proper regard for evidence.
