Regional leaders across Latin America have sharply criticised the United States following Venezuela’s claim that it was subjected to a military attack, with Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and Colombian President Gustavo Petro both publicly denouncing Washington’s actions and voicing support for President Nicolás Maduro.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Díaz-Canel strongly condemned the United States, expressing full solidarity with the Venezuelan government. He called for an “urgent and forceful reaction” from the international community, stating that the alleged attack represented a violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty and international law.

“The world must react firmly to this aggression,” Díaz-Canel said, backing Caracas’ assertion that it had come under military assault by US forces.

Colombia’s Petro accuses US of “extremely serious military aggression”

Colombian President Gustavo Petro also weighed in, issuing a strongly worded statement on social media. Petro described the reported incident as an “extremely serious military aggression perpetrated by the current Government of the United States of America” against Venezuelan territory.

According to Petro, the alleged attacks targeted both civilian and military locations in Caracas, and he claimed the objective was to seize Venezuela’s strategic resources. He urged international institutions to closely examine the developments and respond accordingly.

Venezuela alleges attacks across multiple regions

The statements come after Venezuela’s government said it had suffered military attacks in Caracas and the states of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira, prompting President Maduro to declare a national emergency and order the activation of all national defence contingencies.

Authorities in Caracas have reported explosions, power outages and activity near major military installations, though independent verification of the attacks remains limited.

No official confirmation from the United States

As of now, the United States has not officially acknowledged carrying out any military action against Venezuela. The White House and the Pentagon have yet to issue statements responding to the allegations or the reactions from regional leaders.

While Fox News has reported, citing sources, that US forces were involved in strikes against Venezuela, no confirmation has come from US government channels or other major international agencies.

Tensions escalate in the region

The public support from Cuba and Colombia underscores growing regional concern over the situation, with calls mounting for diplomatic engagement and verification of events.

International observers continue to stress the need for verified information as the situation remains fluid and politically charged.
