China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun confirmed on Friday that President Xi Jinping will attend the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit and also undertake a state visit to South Korea from October 31 to November 1.

The visit will mark Xi’s first trip to Seoul in several years and comes amid renewed diplomatic activity in the Asia-Pacific region.

Xi, Trump to both visit South Korea

South Korea’s National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac announced that both Xi Jinping and United States President Donald Trump will visit Seoul within days of each other.
President Lee Jae Myung is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Trump on October 29 and with Xi Jinping on November 1, Wi told reporters.

The back-to-back visits underline South Korea’s growing role as a diplomatic bridge between Washington and Beijing, even as regional tensions around North Korea remain high.

Possibility of Trump–Kim meeting

Wi said that Seoul is “closely monitoring the possibility” of a meeting between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during the APEC summit, though he clarified that “no new developments” have emerged so far.
