China on Thursday said it is ready to work with the world to ensure global supply chain stability, even as reports suggested Beijing has ordered domestic tech giants to halt purchases of Nvidia’s AI chips.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stressed that Beijing opposes “discriminatory practices against specific countries on economic, trade and technological issues,” in a clear reference to rising U.S. restrictions on China’s access to advanced semiconductor technology.
At the same time, the Chinese Commerce Ministry indicated it will consider approving the transfer of technology and intellectual property linked to TikTok, after Washington claimed it had reached a framework with Beijing on divesting the app from its parent company ByteDance.
The twin developments highlight the delicate balance in U.S.-China relations: cooperation on certain technology-linked trade issues such as TikTok, while deepening disputes over AI and semiconductor access.
