United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday called his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping “amazing,” adding that “a lot of decisions were made” as the two leaders discussed trade and security cooperation.
Following the talks, Trump announced that tariffs on Chinese goods will be reduced to 10% as part of an agreement focused on combating fentanyl. The development marks a significant shift in U.S.–China trade tensions and signals renewed cooperation between the two nations.
Earlier, the closed-door meeting between Trump and Xi concluded with no immediate statement on the outcome. Trump had hinted beforehand that a trade deal “could” be reached, while Xi said he was ready to continue working with Washington “to build a solid foundation for China-US relations and create a sound atmosphere for the development of both countries.”
The meeting lasted approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes and wrapped up without a press conference. Xi will continue his state visit in South Korea and attend the APEC leaders’ summit, while Trump has departed for Washington aboard Air Force One.
More details expected soon.
