The catastrophic explosion at Beirut port on Tuesday evening (i.e. 4th of August 2020) caused by over 2,700 tonnes of ammonium nitrate kept in storage for over six years. According to the government 2750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate exploded during the blast which has claimed 100 lives and injured 4000 people so far. Even still, an unknown number of citizens are trapped at the spot.

This ammonium nitrate, which is used as a fertilizer in agriculture and as an explosive had reportedly been in a warehouse of Beirut port for over the time period of six years after it was unloaded from a ship impounded in 2013.
