Another Indian student who hails from Punjab died today, March 2 in war-torn Ukraine after suffering from a severe stroke.
According to the media reports, the victim’s name was identified as Chandan Jindal, a 22-year-old Punjabi from the Barnala area, who was enrolled at the Vinnytsia National Pyrogov, Memorial Medical University in Ukraine’s Vinnytsia.
Jindal’s death has not been related to the military confrontation, since he has been hospitalised in recent days after suffering an Ischemic stroke. According to sources of Hindustan Times, he died early today at the Vinnytsia Emergency Hospital.
The news comes only one day after an Indian student was killed in a military bombardment in Kharkiv, where Russian forces began an attack on March 1. Naveen SG, a 22-year-old student from Karnataka’s Haveri district, was confirmed as the victim. This was the first loss among Indian students in Ukraine, who numbered roughly 18,000 at the time of the fighting.
On February 27, the Indian Prime Minister spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, voiced his concern for the safety of Indian students in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the Indian government has despatched four Union ministers to monitor the evacuation efforts in Ukraine’s neighbouring countries. Scindia is in charge of the evacuation attempts from Romania and Moldova, while Rijiju, Puri, and Singh are in Slovakia, Hungary, and Poland, respectively.
We may take it as a relief that some of them have already returned, But it is a matter of concern that many others are still waiting their turn to their motherland.
