BBC One and iPlayer have confirmed that Amandaland Season 2 is now in pre-production (2026).

This series is a spinoff of the BBC sitcom Motherland. Amandaland follows Lucy Punch’s character, Amanda Hughes, who is a recently separated mother raising her two teenagers while she is dealing with going from a single-family home to a smaller flat in South Harlesden (SoHa), London. The first episode of Season 1 aired on Feb 5, 2025, received a great response (rating between 6.4 and 7.4 million views per early episode), and was quickly renewed in March 2025.

Amandaland season 2: Latest updates on release date

As of April 2026, there hasn’t been an official announcement regarding when Season 2 will air, but it is expected that it will premiere on BBC One and iPlayer during 2026, probably during either spring or early/mid-year, based on the filming timeline. Filming for Season 2 started in October 2025 and should wrap up sometime around Christmas 2025. They are going to do a Christmas special that will air in late 2025, right before Season 2 premieres.

Season 1 is currently available to stream on BBC iPlayer, while Season 1 was made available on Netflix (in certain countries, including the UK/Ireland) in March 2026, and it is likely that Season 2 will also have a similar pattern.

Amandaland season 2: Cast news

The core cast of the show will be set to return for season 2. They are:

  • Lucy Punch as Amanda Hughes – the pretentious, self-important, single mum who is navigating the ups and downs of being a divorced parent and attempting to ‘climb the social ladder.’
  • Joanna Lumley as Felicity Sanderson – Amanda Hughes mother, who is very domineering and needs to get in her daughter’s way but is denying (to herself) that she is very lonely.
  • Philippa Dunne, as Anne Flynn, is a grounded friend of Amanda’s who gets involved in Amanda’s schemes regularly. She has stated there are “more shenanigans” planned for Amanda to drag her out of the house to do things together.

The Supporting/Returning Cast Members include:

  • Samuel Anderson as Mal (neighbour).
  • Siobhan McSweeney as Della & Rochenda Sandall as Fi (the couple).
  • Children – Miley Locke (Georgie), Alexander Shaw (Manus), Jack Veal (Darius), Ekow Quartey (JJ).
  • Peter Serafinowicz as Johannes Van der Velde (may have an evolving arc from season 1 or not conclude until season 3).

The new/guest additions for Season Two include Jennifer Saunders as Aunt Joan (Felicity’s sister), who appears in the Christmas Special. For Saunders, this marks her first reunion with Joanna Lumley since their time together on “Absolutely Fabulous.” Additional guest stars were featured in a Comic Relief short film made in 2026.

Writers – include Holly Walsh, Laurence Rickard and several writers from Motherland. The executive producer of Motherland is Sharon Horgan.

Amandaland season 2: Plot details

As of now, there is no complete synopsis for Season 2 of SoHa. However, we can expect that Amanda will continue to navigate the chaos that is modern-day motherhood and deal with all the issues associated with raising teenagers (rebellion, eco-anxiety, social media), her complicated relationship with her mother, Felicity, and living in South Harlesden, to name just a few. There will also continue to be awkward situations at the kids’ school, awkward neighbour-to-neighbour interactions (like Mal), as well as the signature tiffs and backhanded compliments among the other parents.

The writers have said Season 2 will return to “SoHa” but with humour relating to family life, local customs (such as fly-tipping) and the general awkwardness of everyday social situations. At the end of Season 1, we were given hints of some potential romance (Amanda & Mal) and that the family dynamics would likely continue to change.

There have been both a Christmas special (featuring Lisa Saunders) and a Comic Relief sketch already aired or made as extras to bridge the two seasons.

For the most up-to-date information, check the announcements on BBC iPlayer, on Radiotimes.com, or the BBC’s official media centre; since at least until the end of April, more information (including a firm release date) for Season 2 will be available really soon. This show has a great mix of sharp British humour, real-life parenting horror stories and ridiculous mishaps, so the expectation for Season 2 is to have more fun.
