The world is full of people who are struggling just to survive. Many families cannot find clean water or enough food. Parents everywhere look at their hungry children and feel completely helpless as they face war, disease and poverty every single day.
But according to some Republicans in Congress, the real victims right now are… themselves. Yes, House Republicans are apparently feeling “miserable” during Donald Trump’s second presidency. Let me just pull out the tiniest imaginary violin for them.
Former Representative Dave Trott told The Daily Beast that even though Trump is the leader they claim to adore, many House Republicans are deeply unhappy. They feel constantly attacked by Trump’s MAGA supporters. Trott hinted at this when talking about the recent surprise resignation of Marjorie Taylor Greene.
He said the lawmakers he stays in touch with are miserable. He explained that the atmosphere in the Capitol has become awful. According to him, hate and even violence have become normal in political spaces. He also said that Trump gets his supporters to go after any Republican who dares to think for themselves. Social media only makes it worse.
There is another layer to their frustration. Many Republicans once supported Trump when he said he would release the Jeffrey Epstein files and expose powerful men involved in Epstein’s crimes. But once Trump entered office, he suddenly changed his mind. He realized that he himself had close ties to Epstein. So he backed out of his promise. Then Republicans had to scramble to reverse their positions and explain to their base why they were no longer supporting the release of the files. Later Trump changed his mind again, leaving them even more embarrassed.
Trott did not hold back when describing the people around Trump. He called them a bunch of “sycophants, felons and idiots.” He meant it as an insult, but honestly, some of those people manage to be all three at the same time.
He ended with a sad truth. He said that today’s political culture is all about destroying anyone who looks different or thinks differently. He hopes most Americans do not feel this way, even though he isn’t fully sure anymore.
