California Governor Gavin Newsom gave a strong interview, stating that the United States is in deep danger. He called the situation a “five-alarm fire” and said former President Donald Trump is trying to win again, no matter what it takes. He told ABC’s Jonathan Karl that it feels like a “Code Red” moment and warned that the country is heading toward something similar to a “Putin-style election.”

Newsom said he is not just worried about the next election. He said if people do not take a stand now, the country might lose the idea of fair and free elections altogether. In his words, “We will not have a country.” He also called Trump’s previous time in office “the most corrupt administration in history.”

He explained this by talking about what he called “the great grift.” He said huge amounts of public money were being wasted on things like a 400 million dollar plane while programs like food stamps were being cut. He said that this is the people’s hard-earned tax money being used in ways that are unfair and wrong.

Newsom also talked about the people around Trump, such as Steve Bannon. He said they are serious and not playing games, and that Americans need to understand how organized and dangerous their plans could be. He asked an emotional question, “Where is everybody? Why aren’t we standing up for what is right?” His frustration and fear were clear in his tone.

He went on to say that he feels disgusted with how the country is being run. He criticised Congress for being weak, private companies for being selfish, and even universities for “selling their soul.” He said it bothers him that so many people are not angry or even paying attention to what is going on. His words came across as passionate and personal, like someone who truly cares about protecting the country.

Newsom also spoke about President Joe Biden. He called Biden “one of the most successful presidents in the last century.” He admitted they have disagreed on things like border issues but praised Biden for his major achievements such as the CHIPS Act, the infrastructure plan, and the Inflation Reduction Act. He said he would defend those policies “to my grave” because he believes they are right for America.

He also mentioned Trump’s behavior online. He talked about Trump posting fake images of himself as the Pope, Superman, and even on Mount Rushmore. Newsom said he has started posting his own mocking pictures of Trump to “hold a mirror” to this behavior and remind people that it should not be seen as normal.

In the end, his message was simple. America is in serious trouble. And if people do not pay attention and speak up now, it might soon be too late.
