Emil Pagliarulo, the Design Director at Bethesda Studio, recently addressed concerns regarding the canon status of Fallout: New Vegas in light of revelations from the Fallout TV series. Despite worries that the beloved game might have been de-canonized by the show, Pagliarulo reassured fans on Twitter that Fallout: New Vegas remains firmly within the series’ canon, stating, “We’ve never suggested otherwise.”
The source of concern arose from a timeline depicted in episode 6 of the Fallout TV series, which seemed to indicate that Shady Sands, the capital of the NCR, had been nuked before the events of Fallout: New Vegas. However, Pagliarulo clarified that this timeline discrepancy does not actually contradict anything established in the game itself.
Pagliarulo’s confirmation of Fallout: New Vegas’ canon status should put any doubts to rest. Moreover, the final shot of the series, featuring Vault 33’s Overseer, Hank MacClean, gazing at a version of New Vegas, further reinforces the game’s place in the Fallout universe. While the city may appear different, it’s essential to remember that the TV show is set 15 years after the events of Fallout: New Vegas, allowing for significant changes over time.
Despite initial concerns, it seems that Fallout: New Vegas’ canonical integrity remains intact within the Fallout TV series. As fans eagerly await a potential second season of the show, Todd Howard’s recent comments on the unlikelihood of an Elder Scrolls TV adaptation may disappoint some. Nevertheless, with the success of Fallout’s television debut, Bethesda’s future ventures into television promise excitement, whether they involve more Fallout content or explore entirely new territories.
