The Miami Dolphins have begun turning their focus to the head coach position following the hiring of a new general manager.

After finalizing a deal with Jon Eric Sullivan, Miami quickly made its interest known in former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Dolphins reached out to Harbaugh the same day Sullivan was hired to formally express interest in bringing him to Miami.

Schefter reported that while no interview has been scheduled yet, Harbaugh is expected to begin speaking with teams in the coming week.

Harbaugh is widely viewed as one of the top candidates available. He brings 18 years of head coaching experience and a Super Bowl championship from his time with the Ravens.

Miami is believed to be seeking stability, leadership, and a proven winner. Harbaugh fits that profile and would represent a major shift for the franchise.

There are currently no known personal or professional ties between Sullivan and Harbaugh. That detail stands out, as NFL hiring decisions often hinge on established relationships.

Miami previously interviewed Chargers assistant general manager Chad Alexander, who has ties to Harbaugh. Alexander was not selected for the general manager role.

The Dolphins face stiff competition for Harbaugh. Several teams are expected to pursue him, with the list potentially growing if playoff teams make coaching changes after the weekend.

The New York Giants are widely viewed as the leading contender. ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reported that the Giants are strongly interested in Harbaugh and that the feeling is mutual, in part due to quarterback Jaxson Dart.

The Athletic’s Ian O’Connor also noted the strong connection between Harbaugh and the Giants. However, he added that Miami should still be considered a serious contender in the race to land Harbaugh.

As the search continues, the Dolphins remain actively engaged as they look to secure a head coach capable of reshaping the franchise’s direction.
