A video circulating on social media has sparked controversy after allegedly showing leftover soft drinks being collected and reused at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium during the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup.

The stadium hosted its first match of the tournament on February 10 between the Netherlands and Namibia. Following the match, a spectator recorded a clip that has since gone viral on Instagram and other platforms. The video appears to show vendors collecting partially consumed Thums Up from used paper cups and pouring the remaining liquid into empty plastic bottles.

In the footage, workers are seen gathering leftover soda—presumably discarded or returned by spectators—into a larger container before refilling branded bottles. The person recording the clip can be heard saying that the leftover Thums Up was being poured back into bottles and could be resold during upcoming matches.

Social media outrage and health concerns

The video triggered strong reactions online between February 11 and 12. Several users described the act as a serious health hazard, raising concerns about contamination, mixing of saliva and the potential spread of infections in a high-footfall public venue.

Many called for immediate action from stadium authorities, the Delhi & District Cricket Association and Coca-Cola India, which owns the Thums Up brand.

Comments ranged from “Ispe action lo. Yeh kisi ke health ke saath majak kr rhe h” to “Can we see someone taking action?” Others termed it “criminal negligence.”

However, some users questioned whether the video conclusively proved that the drinks were being resold, suggesting that assumptions were being made without verified evidence.

As of now, there has been no official statement from stadium authorities or the beverage company regarding the viral clip.
