US President Donald Trump has finally responded to the wave of online rumours that falsely claimed he had died over the Labor Day weekend. Speaking at the White House, Trump dismissed the speculation as “fake” and stressed that he has been “very active” despite not making any public appearances since August 26.

“I wasn’t even aware I was dead,” Trump joked when asked about the trending hashtags and viral posts that questioned his health. He admitted that he had heard reports about concerns over his condition but said they were entirely unfounded. “I saw those rumours about my health — they also know I went to meet someone nearby, I met some people. It’s so fake. The media has so little credibility.”

Trump acknowledged that “something is wrong with me, I do get reports,” but quickly underlined that his absence was simply due to a long weekend. “It was just a long weekend, very active,” he added, pointing out that he had spent time golfing and meeting people in Virginia over the past few days.

The president’s remarks mark his first public acknowledgement of the online chatter that spiraled into trending speculation about his health. Trump’s denial comes just hours before his scheduled Department of Defense announcement, his first official appearance since August 26.
