At least five people have been killed and sixteen seriously injured in a boiler blast that happened at a boiler blast in Thermal Power station II of NLC India Ltd (formerly known as Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited). There is no certain cause of the explosion yet. The blast occurred at around 10 A.M. The officials say that overheating and high pressure generally leads to such an explosion, as reported by timesofindia.com

Located in the Neyveli township in the Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu, this is the second , boiler explosion in two months. On May 7, five workers were killed and three were injured in a blast in the Unit 6 of the Thermal Power Station II of the plant. 

11 victims, out of 16 who had been injured, sustained 40% burns and have been transferred to Chennai. The rest four have been admitted to the general hospital in the town.

Vikraman, one of the directors of the power plant said in a statement that that the plant was not operative and assured that they are looking into the cause of the explosion as the labor union leaders hold the company responsible, reported timesofindia.com.  

The Union Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted, giving condolences to the victims in the incident. “Praying for the earliest recovery of the injured” he said.

This incident follows the queue of the various industrial accidents that happened in the last two months. In the early hours of Tuesday, a gas leak happened at an industrial unit in Visakhapatnam, killing at least two people and injuring four. The month of May witnessed the horrific gas leak from the LG Polymer facility in Vizag killing 11 people including 2 children and hospitalizing over 1000 victims.
