Ahead of IPL 2021 auction, Rajasthan Royals shocking released their former captain Steve Smith. The franchise confirmed this with a tweet on Wednesday. Steve Smith is one of the finest player in the cricket world and is also recently won the award of ICC Test Player of the Decade. Smith led the Royals franchise in IPL 2020  and the team finished at the bottom of the points table.

Smith scored 311 runs in the 2020 edition of IPL in 14 matches at a strike rate of 131 and overall he played 95 IPL matches, scored 2333 runs with an average of 35.34. He scored a century and 11 half-centuries in his IPL career till now.

The release of Smith means that Rajasthan Royals will enter IPL 2021 under the leadership of a new skipper. Smith earlier led the team in 2019 as he took up the charge from Ajinkya Rahane in the middle of the tournament. The franchise is now looking up to get a new Indian captain who can ensure the trophy for the franchise. Rajasthan Royals won the IPL title once back in the year 2008.
