Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has confirmed that two people have died and 32 others were injured in the tragic Indrayani River bridge collapse that occurred on Sunday evening in Indori village, near Talegaon Dabhade in Pune district.
The bridge, located in a popular tourist area, collapsed amid heavy rainfall and a surge in water levels. As per reports, several people were on the old structure when it gave way, leading to panic and chaos.
CM Fadnavis stated that six people have been rescued so far, and that he is personally monitoring the situation. He is in constant contact with the Divisional Commissioner, District Collector, and Superintendent of Police. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local rescue teams are conducting intensive search operations in the area.
Among the injured, six are reported to be in critical condition and are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.
The Chief Minister expressed condolences to the bereaved families and said all possible support is being extended.
The incident is believed to have been triggered by the heavy rainfall in Maval over the last two days, which caused a sharp rise in the river’s water level and possibly compromised the bridge’s integrity.
This is a developing story.
