A pair of gold-plated spectacles belonging to Mahatma Gandhi were found by employees of an auction house at UK’s Bristol. Auctioneers are of the view that spectacles may hold a rich history and they are surprised to discover the spectacles. They said it was received through their letterbox in an envelope.

Addressing the situation Andy Stowe of the East Bristol Auctions said, “It’s a huge find of great historical importance. The vendor had presumed them to be interesting, but of no value and did tell me to dispose them, if they don’t work.” These glasses are likely to fetch between 10,000-15000 pounds.

These gold plated are said to have been with the family of unnamed vendor and have already made a business of 6,000 pounds online. According to the owner these glasses have been transferred to him by his generations. They happened to own them after one of the family member met Gandhi at British Petroleum in South Africa. According to Stowe, the vendor’s uncle must have worked in British Petroleum in South Africa as he is of view that Gandhi didn’t wear glasses until late 1910s and/or early 1920s.

Named as “Pair of Mahatma Gandhi’s Personal Spectacles’, these glasses comprise the auctioneers’ Military, History and Classic Cars online sale and will be sold on August 21. The auction detailed as ” A pair of early 20th century c 1920 gold plated circular rimmed spectacles by repute owned and worn by Mahatma Gandhi”. The glasses have grabbed much attention in various territories including India.
