“Throughout this whole semester, there were minimal studies. All laboratories and other such facilities were closed. We believe that it is difficult to conduct exams when regular classes have not been held.” said Manish Sosidia. He also quoted Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, while saying “extraordinary times like these call for extraordinary measures”.

Sisodia also added that the universities will evaluate students on the basis of internal assessments and previous examinations. He said that the only option that they universities have now is to figure out a “progressive” system that doesn’t involve exams. Accordingly, all the final year students will be getting their degrees. The students in the first and the second year of college will also be promoted to the next year on the basis of internal evaluations.

This decision by the government comes after the University Grants Commission’s notification to all the universities to conduct exams by September 30.

This decision by the Delhi government is applicable to universities such as Ambedkar University, Delhi Technological University, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women.

However, the fate of central universities in Delhi, which are Delhi University, Jamia Millia Islamia and Jawahar Lal Nehru University, is still uncertain.
