Two Chinese nationals have been summoned for allegedly stealing COVID-19 vaccine research and hacking the systems of various US and International companies, stated US Department of Justice on Tuesday. The department also stated that the hackers targeted companies in United States, Australia, Belgium, Germany, Japan, and many other countries.
Li Xioyu, 34 and Dong Jiazhi, 33, have been summoned for hacking and stealing the COVID-19 vaccine research, company systems and also targeted human rights activists in United States, China and Hong Kong.
Assistant Attorney John Demers stated that these two hackers, in some cases, performed the illegal activities “for personal gain” and in other cases, China’s Ministry of State Security, he alleged.
This happens amidst the diplomatic tensions between both the United States and China due to the Coronavirus pandemic for which US has imposed a series of accusations on the mainland.
