Anand Mahindra gives a scathing reply to Global Times editor, says India Inc ‘will rise to the occasion’

The ban placed on 59 Chinese apps including TikTok, UC Browser, Shein and others by the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has caused a tremendous uproar. It also saw India Inc boss Anand Mahindra engage in a war of words with the Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese state-run media, Global Times.

Hu Xijin, the Global Times editor, took to Twitter to respond to the ban placed by the Indian government on Chinese apps. He wrote in his tweet, “Well, even if Chinese people want to boycott Indian products, they can’t really find many Indian goods. Indian friends, you need to have some things that are more important than nationalism.”

Mahindra CEO quickly responded and thanked him for provoking him. He responded, “I suspect this comment might well be the most effective & motivating rallying cry that India Inc. has ever received.” After his tweet, several netizens slammed Xijin for his tweet.

Global Times has often been criticised by the Indian media for being a mouthpiece of propaganda for the Chinese government. This is not the first time that the Global Times has been commenting on the ongoing India-China clash. Recently, the English-language Chinese newspaper called help from the United States ‘wishful thinking’ by India.
