Elon Musk imagines a future where Neuralink, his company that creates brain-computer interfaces, goes beyond just treating neurological disorders. He envisions it enhancing human abilities to levels we can’t yet imagine. In a recent chat on the Lex Fridman Podcast, Musk talked about how Neuralink could significantly improve how we communicate with computers and even give us “superhuman” capabilities.
Musk highlighted that with just a small fraction of Neuralink’s electrodes in use with their first patient, they were already achieving communication speeds that are twice as fast as the current world record. He believes that as they improve and add more electrodes, Neuralink will soon set new world records by a huge margin.
He thinks that as the technology advances, Neuralink could allow us to communicate much faster than talking or typing. In the future, it might even enable things like telepathic communication, uploading and downloading memories, and expanding our senses beyond what humans can currently experience. Musk even imagines a future where people could see in different wavelengths, similar to the character Geordi La Forge from Star Trek. So, if you wanted to see in radar, ultraviolet, infrared, or even have “eagle vision,” that could become possible.
