In a new addition to a series of changes being brought out on the micro-blogging site Twitter, Elon Musk on Thursday announced rolling out ‘View Count’, the new feature that lets users on the micro-blogging site know how many times a given tweet has been viewed.
Musk said “90% of Twitter users read, but don’t tweet, reply or like, as those are public actions” in a thread of tweets on Twitter. The view counts would be displayed near the analytics icon, now available for all the live tweets.
The view count, however, would not be available for community Tweets, Twitter Circle Tweets and Older Tweets. Twitter has said that anyone who views a Tweet, counts as a view of whether or not they follow the account. Twitter has clarified that not all views of Tweet would be unique.
The micro-blogging site further brought out that, it may take up to a minute to show the view count. The new feature also allows users to see the view counts on the protected accounts. In a protected account, a particular account has the authority to approve the follower’s request.
The new feature is now available for both iOS and Android apps. Reportedly, the new feature was announced by Musk on December one this year. Various users have expressed their displeasure over the feature.
Twitter had previously experimented with fleet features. The fleet allowed users to share text or respond to posts, and every fleet disappeared within 24 hours. Twitter discontinued fleets on August three of the previous year.
