New research by Capgemini reveals that generative AI (GenAI) is gaining traction among UK organizations, with about 31% having already adopted some form of this technology. This is a significant leap from just 3% a year ago, indicating a growing enthusiasm for GenAI.

The study, which surveyed 1,100 global executives, shows that most organizations plan to implement AI tools within the next one to three years, reflecting increased confidence in the technology. The report highlights that businesses using GenAI have seen notable benefits: a 8.1% boost in productivity, a 6.3% increase in operational efficiency, a 6.2% rise in customer engagement and satisfaction, a 4.2% growth in sales, and a 3.1% reduction in costs.

British businesses, in particular, are optimistic about GenAI’s potential. Around 84% of UK companies expect significant transformation, revenue growth, and innovation from the technology, which is higher than the global average of 60%.

Pascal Brier, Capgemini’s Chief Innovation Officer, noted that as investment in AI grows, we are entering a new phase of more complex and autonomous AI systems that could reshape business operations.

While nearly all (98%) of surveyed companies use generative AI to some extent, many are not fully capitalizing on its potential due to constraints in infrastructure, data, or budget.

Looking forward, Brier emphasized that trust, transparency, and accountability will be key to the successful adoption of generative AI. Currently, 35% of companies view the technology as essential for staying competitive, a sharp increase from 15% in 2023.
