Supreme Court Warns Comedian Samay Raina Over Comments in Canada Amid Podcast Controversy

“These youngsters may think we are outdated, but we know how to deal with them. Don’t take the court lightly,” Justice Kant stated during the hearing.

The Supreme Court on Monday issued a strong warning to comedian Samay Raina for making remarks in Canada regarding the ongoing case linked to his show, India’s Got Latent. Justice Surya Kant criticized Raina for discussing the matter publicly and cautioned against undermining the authority of the judiciary.

“These youngsters may think we are outdated, but we know how to deal with them. Don’t take the court lightly,” Justice Kant stated during the hearing. The case revolves around podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, widely known as The BeerBiceps Guy, who sparked nationwide controversy last month with his comments about sex and parents on Raina’s show. The uproar led to multiple complaints against Allahbadia, Raina, and fellow YouTubers Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Mukhija.

During his comedy tour in Canada, Raina lightheartedly addressed the controversy, quipping, “Thanks for paying my lawyer’s fees.” His remarks did not sit well with the court, prompting Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to highlight that Raina had made a joke about the legal proceedings while abroad.

Despite the controversy, the Supreme Court on Monday granted Allahbadia permission to resume his podcast, The Ranveer Show, after temporarily halting his content production. The bench emphasized the need to balance freedom of expression with public morality and urged the Centre to consider this when drafting future regulations on digital content.

Raina, for his part, had earlier removed all related videos from his channel, stating he was fully cooperating with authorities, while Allahbadia apologized, calling his remarks inappropriate.
