Facebook-owned social media giant, Instagram has announced that now a shopping option will be available in its reels section, which is a short video section. The feature has begun its global rollout as of today and will allow reel users, influencers and businesses to tag their products and the users will be able to buy it via a single click or even save it for later. Instagram had introduced the shopping feature for its IGTV section in October.
The new feature will include a branded content tag which will allow users to tag products that are via paid promotions. With this rollout, Instagram has made the shopping feature available in all its format like pictures, videos, reels IGTV etc. Shopping and product promotions are the major sources of revenue for these social media platforms.
Instagram is a hugely popular medium used by people for inspirations and trends and the introduction of the shopping feature is like a cherry on the cake for the people who promote or sell products as these will largely boost sales. Instagram uses Facebook Pay and includes e-commerce features such as a basket and checkout pages, so now the users will not be able to leave the app while buying a product.
Surprisingly, this feature comes at a time when Facebook is charged with a lawsuit in the US, sponsored by 48 states. It has been accused of creating a monopoly in the market and has been asked to be broken up.
